Convocations and other special events and celebrations are opportunities for the entire campus community to come together for special celebrations or opportunities. Regular convocations include the Fall Academic Convocation, which formally opens the academic year; Thanksgiving Convocation, a student-led celebration of the blessings of our year; and a Spring Convocation in celebration of the ideals of stewardship for self, community, and environment. Throughout the year, academic departments schedule forums; art, music, and theater performances; guest speakers; symposia; conferences; career fairs; and other special events of an academic, cultural or recreational nature. Students are encouraged to participate in as many activities as possible and to develop spontaneous activities in response to current events or local interests.
Student Activities
In addition, many activities are planned for students and by students to build community, encourage social interaction, and create fun memories of the college experience. From bingo and movie nights in the Student Activities Center to dances, coffeehouses, and other campus-wide events, student activities are held throughout the year for resident and commuter students. Students can also gain valuable skills and leadership experience by getting involved in planning and implementing these events through Student Activities, Student Senate, or student clubs and organizations.
