Summer Bridge Program
Are you ready for college? Do you need help to begin college-level course work in the fall? Freshmen registered to enter St. Catharine College this fall may apply to participate in the Summer Bridge Program for pre-college instruction in math and/or
English. Participants must be ready to begin Foundations (remedial) course work at the College.
Successful participation in the Summer Bridge Program will enable students to begin regular collegelevel courses in the fall for full credit toward graduation. Each student’s progress will be assessed at the end of the Summer Bridge Program, and placements in fall term courses will be supervised by Math and English faculty.
The Summer Bridge Program will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays. This is a nonresidential program, so housing is not provided. Mathematics instruction will be done in the mornings, 9 a.m. to 12 noon, and language instruction (English, Composition, Reading) will be done in the afternoons, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. St. Catharine College faculty members
will provide all instruction. Lunch will be available for all participants at noon. Each day from 12:30 to 1 p.m. a guest presenter will discuss a topic concerning readiness for success in college.
These presentations will be made by faculty, staff and students from all areas of the College. Participants in the Bridge Program will also form a cohort for the Freshman Read. They will read and form a discussion group for an exciting book that will be considered by all members of the entering Freshman class. The Summer Bridge Program is designed to open the door to success in College!
Scholarships are available for participants in the Summer Bridge Program. A $25 deposit is required, and this will be applied to the student’s account upon completion of the Summer Bridge Program. Participants are required to pay for the books and educational materials they use.
