How I Paid For CollegeMeet SCC Student Lana Drake from Paoli, Indiana
“If you have a desire to attend St. Catharine College, the Financial Aid Office will work with you to help make attending possible. Even though I worked while I was in high school, between buying my car and handling other expenses, I wasn’t able to save much for college. The first two years at St. Catharine, I made it work by combining private loans with a Pell Grant. I also participated in work-study on campus where my position was assisting President Huston’s Executive Assistant, Connie Kays. This federally funded program allowed me to work on campus in a position that has helped me to build valuable skills and make an important contribution back to my College.
Then, mid-way through my program, I found out that I had been selected to receive the Tommy Haydon Scholarship, given in memory of a long-time SCC board member who has done a lot for the College. This really changed things for me. This paid for whatever wasn’t covered by my financial aid for the remainder of my time in college. The Financial Aid Office was a huge asset in helping me obtain this scholarship. When I graduate next August with my BA in Medical Imaging and MRI, I’ll have some loans to pay, but I’ll also have skills that I know I can use to land a good job in the Louisville area that will help me eliminate them quickly.”
