The Marketing program at St. Catharine College includes a strong Liberal Arts component to help broaden your  focus and understanding to an ever changing, dynamic world.  This will help you develop keen reasoning skills that serve you well no matter what your ultimate career path may be. As a Marketing student at St. Catharine College you will enroll in classes that are purposely kept small to allow you to get to know your instructors better. This will also allow for more individualized attention and more dynamic classroom discussions not afforded in larger classrooms. Upon graduation you will be prepared for the next phase of your life, whether it is in the workplace or on to an advanced degree.

Interesting Courses You Will Take:

Marketing Foundations -  An introduction to fundamental marketing principles and concepts that include consumer behavior, products, distribution, promotion and pricing.

Consumer Behavior -  An applied course that incorporates theories from psychology and sociology to better understand the behaviors of consumers as they go through the decision making process.  Students will apply the course concepts in the development of projects applied to the consumption behaviors of themselves and the marketplace.

Global Marketing -  This application course allows the student to utilize principles and theories learned in previous courses to analyze marketing opportunities in the international arena.  Students will gain a greater global awareness and develop cultural skills in the asssessment of political and financial risk factors, various trade barriers, and the development of global marketing strategies.

Marketing Strategy -  This senior capstone experience will help the student as they transition from their undergraduate program to the workplace by allowing them to implement marketing principles learned in the development of marketing plans for contemporary companies.

Meet the Instructors

Dr. Steven Walker, Chair of the Marketing Department, has many years of corporate business experience and over a decade of university level experience.  Since his arrival at St. Catharine he has implemented several program developments that include the addition of several new and upgraded courses to help provide a solid marketing foundation.

Mr. Michael Halloran holds considerable experience both as a business owner and manager in addition to his lengthy classroom experience at St. Catharine.  He teaches some of the preparatory business classes required prior to starting the marketing program.

Career Outlook for Major

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, between 2008 and 2018, employment in advertising, promotions and public relations is expected to grow at about the average rate of 13 percent across all occupations.
