Department of Health and Sports Sciences
Promote Health and Fitness Professionally
Our students are equipped with the broad interdisciplinary education that is so appealing to employers in all areas of specialization. Our department gives students many avenues for participation in athletics and health promotion and is on the cutting edge of a student’s involvement.
Sports are not limited to just teaching and coaching now in the 21st century. Because of this, our degrees allow students to pursue business and managerial opportunities in sports like fitness or aquatic centers, Boys and Girls Club, or instill the knowledge needed to be a personal trainer. In addition, the degree can also open opportunities in Sports Information, athletic agencies, or sports compliance. Students can use this degree to teach or coach if they connect it to a Master of Arts in Education Degree, just an additional one year commitment if they go to school full time. Opportunities for Graduate programs will require additional schooling, but the foundation will be the Sports Leadership Degree.
Health Promotion is vital to a sustainable community. Our commitment to areas of public and community health, environmental health issues, the role of health care organizations, along with diversity and population health issues all tie in to the holistic approach of St. Catharine’s mission.
Our department remains committed to promote the college’s commitment to core values of excellence, learning, community, civic engagement, diversity and leadership development. Sportsmanship, personal/community health and the overall well being of the student and the community are fundamental to the future of the citizens of the Commonwealth and beyond. Intellectual curiosity is encouraged in the liberal arts and the relationship of mental acuity to physical activity and healthy lifestyles.
