A Four-Year Degree That Advances Your Radiography Career
Most radiography programs terminate at the associate or certificate level. At Saint Catharine College you can advance your associate degree or certificate of Radiography to obtain a meaningful career in advanced medical imaging. The program curriculum is comprehensive in nature and is dedicated to the education of those individuals committed to superior patient care, life-long learning, and procedural and professional competence. This degree is especially designed to offer a leadership position while preparing the student to pursue their choice of specialty, computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
The professional curriculum is a total of 19 credit hours that can realistically be completed in two semesters. Some students choose to take both concentrations which would add 1 more semester, but gain the ability to apply for both (CT and MRI) of the examinations offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Each student will be evaluated on classroom and practicum experiences, but must continue to obtain the necessary examinations required by the ARRT. The program is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
- Graduates will be well-educated, responsible and ethical professionals by providing educational and clinical opportunities that promote advanced level competency.
- Graduates will demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking skills at an advanced level in the production and analysis of quality Computed Tomography (CT) and/or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) procedures.
- Graduates will actively participate in the dynamic health care community encouraging effective communication, critical thinking and life-long learning.
- Graduates will meet the needs of the health care community by demonstration of the current practice standards established for the advanced medical imaging professions of Computed Tomography (CT) and/or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
Applicants will meet the following criteria:
- Provide evidence of graduation from an accredited radiologic sciences program or equivalent with at least a 2.50 GPA
- Provide evidence of ARRT certification on or before the start of the first AMI course
Special Program Highlights and Features:
Students complete clinical rotations at a variety of sites, so they experience several types of settings.
Classes are small, and the clinical portion is based on individual student needs.

Other Options for CT and MR Training Available
Not only does St. Catharine offer the Bachelor of Science in Advanced Medical Imaging, we also have two other options:
- The Certificate in Advanced Medical Imaging is for students who are registered Rad Techs transferring from another program or even coming from our own Rad Tech program. There is 19 credit hours in the certificate program and a program guide is available.
- Registered Rad Techs who are currently working in either CT or MR and want to take classes they feel will be helpful to them to pass the advanced imaging registry exam. They most likely will only take 8-12 credit hours, i.e. Physics, Procedures, Seminar, Cross Sectional Anatomy.
Interesting Courses You Might Take
Cross-sectional Anatomy for Medical Imaging
In this class students will study cross-section anatomy to analyze and identify structures for location, relationship to other structures, and function as imaged by Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
Advanced Patient Care
Where students will develop advanced patient care and management knowledge including cardiac, critical care, trauma, and special services. ACLS education is included.
A class where students study imaging procedures utilized in computerized tomography, and corresponding pathology.
A class where students study imaging procedures utilized in magnetic resonance imaging, and corresponding pathology. Specific clinical application, coils, scan sequences, protocols and positioning criteria are also covered.
