Admissions Procedures

Students who have been accepted to St. Catharine College may apply to Pharmacy Technology. The admission process consists of an interview with the Program Director, in which the applicant should be prepared to discuss why they want to work in Pharmacy, how they think the program will help them, and their understanding of hospital and retail pharmacies.

The Associates of Applied Science in Pharmacy Technology consists of four semesters of study. Two semesters of the program comprise the Pharmacy Technology Core, or the Certificate Program. This core represents the curriculum and competencies package required to stand for the professional certification as a Pharmacy Technologist under the guidelines of the American Association of Health Systems Pharmacists and the the Kentucky Pharmacy Technologist License. The remaining two semesters (or equivalent for part-time, or foundational course work) comprise the balance of the requirements for the Associates Degree.

The pharmacy technology core is taught as a single, continuous sequence requiring full-time enrollment, and the course sequence is specified. A student may choose to complete the pharmacy technology core (two semesters) prior to or after the completion of the general and elective phase of the program. The guided elective phase will allow the student to either concentrate in science courses supporting advanced study or in management and supervision courses appropriate to advancing in the workplace.

Enrollment is limited to twelve incoming students per semester and there are no pre-requisites required for program admission. One "D" grade will be accepted on a non-pharmacy course. First semester courses must be completed prior to PHT 190. Students who are very weak in math should consider taking foundational course work before or during the first semester.

Please note that students needing foundation course work will take more time to progress through the prescribed curriculum.
