Admissions Procedures

Application Process

 

Step 1: Submit to the SCC Admissions Department:

  • Completed St. Catharine College admission form; a non-refundable fee is required.
  • An official high school transcript or official GED scores.
  • Official transcripts from each college/university previously attended.
  • Complete all other admission requirements as requested by St. Catharine College

HSC 110  Medical Terminology
BIO 204   Anatomy & Physiology I with lab
BIO 205   Anatomy & Physiology II with lab
ENG 101  English Composition I
ENG 102  English Composition II
MAT 105  College Mathematics (or higher)
PSY 100  General Psychology
PSY  150 Developmental Psychology
 
  • The student must have at least a C or better in all pre-requisite courses.
  • The student must have a minimal cumulative GPA of 2.75.  The cumulative GPA is calculated only on pre-requisite course grades rewuired by the Department of Nursing for admission.
  • Students may repeat one of the two Anatomy & Physiology courses (BIO 204 or 205) one time only to be considered for admission.
  • All pre-requisite courses must be completed by May 31 for fall admission cycle and October 15 for spring admission cycle.
  • Individuals are encouraged to meet with the Health Sciences pre-nursing advisor to develop a pre-nursing academic plan.  For individuals who seek to transfer credit, the Registrar at St. Catharine College will determine if transfer courses meet course descriptions.

Step 3:

  • Attend a mandatory application session.  Application sessions will be held in August, September, October, January, February, and March, February, March.  Dates and times TBA.
  • Schedule to take the Admission HESI examination. The Admission HESI exam will be given in January, February, March, August, September, and October. Dates and times TBA. Admission HESI scores are evaluated as part of the selection process. A fee is due when the exam is scheduled. The exam may be scheduled by contacting the Department of Nursing.
  • Complete an ADN Program application and return it to the Nursing Office. Applications can be found at sccky.edu or in the Nursing Office. Applications are due April1 for Fall admission and November 1 for Spring admission.
 

Admission Policy

  1. A student must achieve a minimal score of 77 on the Assessment Cumulative Score on the HESI Exam.
  2. A student may take the HESI exam only one time every 6 months.
  3. Admission will be granted to students based on the Assessment Cumulative Score on the HESI Exam. The students with the highest Assessment Cumulative Scores will be granted admission to the program.
  4. In the event of a tie on the Assessment Cumulative Score; ties will be broken based upon the Prerequisite GPA.
  5. The number of students admitted each admission cycle will be based upon faculty and clinical site availability.

REMEMBER...
  • Registration for application sessions is required by noon the day before the session.
  • The admission exam will be administered in the Hamilton Health & Science Building room 117 (space is limited).
  • All afternoon Admission HESI sessions will be held as scheduled.  Morning sessions will be canceled if fewer than 5 students register and there are slots available in the afternoon.   
  •   Fee for HESI is $40.00, due at registration.
  • Students are to register by contacting Yvonne McNary in the Nursing Department ext. 1205.
 
Upon Admission
 
1.  Submit Physical Examination form, including documents of immunization and Tb skin test  through CertifiedBackground.com
 
2.  Provide verification of current Healthcare Provider CPR certification through CertifiedBackground.com
 
3.  Provide verification of completion of SRNA certification through CertifiedBackground.com.
 
4.  Submit background check and random urine drug analysis through CertifiedBackground.com
 
 
Keypoint - The Kentucky Board of Nursing shall have the authority to deny access to completing  the RN licensure examination to anyone who has been convicted of a felony misdemeanor.
 
5.  Remit all remaining program fees to include the costs of the background check and drug analysis.

Nursing Assistant (SRNA) Requirement

One of the admissions requirements for entry into the program is successful completion of a state certified course or documentation of an active certificate. St. Catharine College's Center for Continuing and Community Education is now able to offer this class.
