Get off to a great start at college

Does SCC offer my major? What are the requirements for my major? How do I assure timely progression towards my degree? I don’t even know what I want to choose as a major! Will I be able to work in a Study Abroad experience during my four years? Help!

If you’re like most beginning college students, you have lots of questions and maybe a few butterflies too. Here’s the good news: we have answers for you.

We know that starting off on the right foot when you begin college is so important. At St. Catharine College, we do everything we can to ensure that you make a strong start and have a clear plan for your future. You may not know which major you want to pursue.  A lot of students don’t when they first get here. Rest assured, that’s no problem.  The Center for Student Support Services has tools to help you find the major that’s right for you.

Early on, you’ll meet with an advisor within your chosen major to plan an academic schedule that will allow you to graduate on time and with all the classes you need.

Additionally, the Center for Student Support Services is available to help you throughout your years at St. Catharine College. Our office, located next to the Admissions Office in Lower Bertrand, is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. We encourage you to make an appointment by calling extension 1273, or just drop-in for a visit at your convenience.

If you are looking for information about specific academic policies, please see the sidebar links on this page.

You can meet with our Director, Mrs. Margaret Hockensmith about any of these services:

  • Choosing a Major – FOCUS Inventory – Identify the areas of study that most fit your interests, values and abilities.
  • Creating a Graduation Plan – Develop a schedule that assures you will graduate on time.
  • Selecting an Advisor – Identify an advisor within your chosen major.
