President and Administration

A Word from President William Huston

It is my pleasure to welcome you to St. Catharine College. There has never been a better time to be a part of our campus. We’re growing in student population, faculty and facilities.

The past decade has brought incredible change and growth to our campus. Our housing capacity has increased to accommodate over 300 students. By fall 2011 we will have an additional 100-bed dormitory on campus.

Currently nearly 1,000 students attend St. Catharine, representing 60 counties, 12 states and a half dozen foreign countries.

Though our college is growing, you are never just a number on campus. Professors get to know their students well and so do I. St. Catharine is an intimate campus where you’ll feel a part of our family from the very first day.

St. Catharine College is a four-year college that has added 20 new bachelor degrees since 2005. I also recently announced the appointment of Sister Mary Angela Shaughnessy, SCN, J.D., Ph.D. as the dean of our graduate programs. Our plan is to begin offering masters level courses within the next two years.

Today, with our undergraduate programs and later with our master’s curriculum, the college is fully committed to graduating students who are prepared to contribute to society, hold down professional jobs and enrich our communities. We fulfill that commitment by offering programs that meet real needs in the world. Our health science programs are a case in point. Among other degree programs, we offer eight different specialties in medical imaging, something no other institution in the country is doing to my knowledge. Our students intern and gain hands-on experience in a full third of Kentucky’s hospitals. Every single person in the program has passed the national boards and found employment in their field. That’s a testimony to the strength of our program, the quality of our students and the commitment of the faculty who teach our students.

Our education program is equally well respected. In fact, I had a principal tell me recently that at job fairs he always looks for students wearing the purple and gold colors of St. Catharine because he knows when he hires one of our students he is getting a teacher who is exceptionally well trained.

From our growing facilities and exceptional faculty to our expanding programs and student body, there’s a lot going on throughout our beautiful campus. I’m excited about coming to my office each day and enthusiastic about our future as a college. You can feel confident that you are getting the very best of higher education when you enroll at St. Catharine College. I look forward to seeing you on campus.
